How to add Google Analytics to WordPress

Step 1: Get Google Analytics tracking code

To generate the Google Analytics code for your website, follow the steps below – 

  • Log in to your Google Analytics account then select the website for which you need a tracking code 
  • Click on the “Admin” on the left taskbar 
  • Go to the Property column 
  • Click on Traffic Info and then on the Traffic Code  
  • You will find the Tracking Code under the Website Tracking section 
  • Copy the code 

Step 2: Add your tracking code to the header.php file 

After you have generated the code, here is the way to add it to your header.php file –

  • Go to your WordPress Dashboard 
  • Navigate to Appearance -> Editor 
  • Click on the header.php file on the right side just below the Templates section 
  • Paste your tracking code before the closing </head> tag. 
  • Finally, click on the “Update file”
